An abstentionist MP since 2015, Mickey Brady was first elected to the Northern Ireland Assembly in 2007, representing Newry and Armagh. He retained the seat in 2011 before standing down in 2015. He was selected to contest the 2015 General Election, replacing Conor Murphy. He hasn’t taken his seat in the House of Commons, in line with Sinn Fein's policy.

He was previously a councillor on Armagh City & District Council where he was appointed mayor. Mr Irwin is a dairy farmer and a member of the Orange Order and Royal Black Institution.

Local businessman Martin Kelly is one of seven Aontu candidates contesting the December 12 election. The pro-life republican party was formed in January. It is contesting the poll on an abstentionist ticket. Mr Kelly was previously selected by the party to stand for Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Council in May's local government election.

Born in Co Armagh, Sam Nicholson entered politics in 2014 when he was elected to Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council, representing Armagh. He was re-elected in May. The chartered architect is currently a director of DA Architects LTD with offices in both Larne and Armagh.
