Alliance Party
Danny Donnelly has been an Alliance MLA for East Antrim since 2022. He was previously a Mid and East Antrim Borough councillor, representing the Larne Lough electoral area after being elected on the first count in 2019. He began his political career as a candidate for Green Party (NI) before joining Alliance in 2012. In the 2019 General Election, he came second to Sammy Wilson in East Antrim.
Social Democratic and Labour Party
Margaret Anne McKillop has been a councillor on Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council since 2011, representing the Glens electoral area. She lives in Cushendall and has three children. She is the SDLP spokesperson for rural opportunities and is associated with GAA club Ruairí Óg.
Sinn Fein
Oliver McMullan first entered politics in 1993 when he topped the poll in The Glens DEA of Moyle District Council as an independent. He joined Sinn Fein in 2003 and two years later became the first Sinn Fein chairman of the council. In 2011, he was elected as an MLA for East Antrim in a seat he lost to the UUP's John Stewart in 2017. He was elected to Causeway Coast and Glens Council in 2019 representing The Glens.
Ulster Unionist Party
John Stewart has been an MLA for East Antrim since 2017, having previously served six years as a councillor on Carrickfergus Borough Council and Mid and East Antrim Borough Council. He is a Reserve Army soldier with the North Irish Horse.
Traditional Unionist Voice
Matthew Warwick is a Mid and East Antrim Borough councillor, elected last year in the final count in the Braid DEA by fewer than 11 votes from the DUP's Julie Philpott. After several years as a teacher, he has been employed as Education Officer with the Ulster-Scots Community Network since January 2008. He is also on the committee of the Flute Band Association of NI.
Democratic Unionist Party
DUP stalwart Sammy Wilson has held public office since 1981, when he was first elected to Belfast City Council on which he served until 2010. During that time, he was Lord Mayor twice. In 1998, he was elected to the Northern Ireland Assembly representing East Belfast and was subsequently returned in 2003, 2007 and 2011 for the East Antrim constituency. In 2007, Mr Wilson was appointed to serve as the chairman of the Education Committee before becoming Environment Minister in June 2008 and, later, Finance Minister. He stepped down from the Assembly in 2015. Having lost the 2001 General Election to the UUP's Roy Beggs by just 128 votes, Mr Wilson became MP for East Antrim in 2005 and has now been elected on five successive occasions, with majorities ranging from 5,975 votes to 15,923 votes.
