Pete Byrne is in his second full term as a Newry, Mourne and Down District Councillor representing the Slieve Gullion DEA. He was first co-opted in 2016 and was re-elected in 2019 and 2023. Mr Byrne contested the 2019 General Election in Newry and Armagh, finishing third. He lives with his husband in Crossmaglen, where he runs his fourth generation family business Byrne Monumentals.

Daire Hughes was the last and the youngest ever Mayor of Newry and Mourne District Council before it merged with Down in 2015. Mr Hughes was previously political manager of the Sinn Fein team in the European Parilament, and is currently Sinn Fein Deputy General Secretary.

Born in New York, Liam Reichenberg moved to his mother's native south Armagh in 1991. He served three terms on the board of governors at St Mary's Primary School in Mullaghbawn and two at St Joseph's High School in Crossmaglen. He contested last year's council election.

Gareth Wilson has represented the Cusher district at council level since 2005, elected on five occasions and topping the poll in 2019. He was Deputy Mayor of Armagh in 2009, before being named Mayor of Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council in 2017.

Helena Young was co-opted onto Newry, Mourne and Down District Council representing the Slieve Croob area in May. She replaced Andrew McMurray, who in turn became an MLA replacing Patrick Brown, who stood down for personal reasons. Ms Young ran for council in both 2019 and 2023 but narrowly missed out on both occasions.
