Brigitte Anton is the regional administrator of the Labour Party in Northern Ireland and is one of eight "breakaway" candidates standing for election after the party refused to run official candidates. She is responsible for recruitment and organising party events. Ms Anton, who has a PhD in modern history from Queen's University, is also the owner of knitwear business and a freelance web content writer and editor.

Clare Bailey has worked in the Suffolk/Lenadoon interface area where she was a community development worker and researcher. She currently works for the Green Party's Assembly team. Ms Bailey was a founder pupil of Lagan College, Northern Ireland’s first integrated school, and completed a BA in politics with cultural and media studies at Queen’s University, where she was elected mature students’ officer.

Community worker Paula Bradshaw is director of the Greater Village Regeneration Trust. She was elected to Belfast City Council in May 2014 and sits on the People and Communities Committee and the Good Relations Partnership. She's also a member of the Belfast Strategic Partnership for Health and Wellbeing and a member of the committees of several community organisations. Ms Bradshaw stood for the Alliance Party in last year's Westminster election.

A former Deputy Lord Mayor of Belfast, Billy Dickson was a founding member of the DUP along with Ian Paisley, and survived a murder attempt by the INLA in 1982. After leaving the DUP in 1986, Mr Dickson joined the Conservative Party and has also stood for election for the TUV. Outside politics, he worked at the Ulster Museum and later became a tour guide, specialising in the history of Belfast and the Ulster Covenant.

Claire Hanna was elected to Belfast City Council representing the Balmoral area in 2011 and re-elected in 2014. She chaired the Town Planning Committee. The following year, she was co-opted to the Assembly for South Belfast, replacing Alasdair McDonnell, and was deputy chair of the Finance Committee. The former international development worker was born in Connemara before moving to South Belfast at the age of three.

John Hiddleston has lived and worked in South Belfast for most of his adult life. An economics graduate from Queen’s University, he has been a director and shareholder of several small businesses. He previously stood for the UUP in the Assembly election of 2003.

Lily Kerr is a veteran trade unionist and a former senior official with the public sector union, Unison. She's a former vice chair of ICTU women’s committee and a former member of the European Trade Union Congress women’s committee. She has a particular interest in low paid women workers and the defence of public services.

Emma Little-Pengelly was co-opted to the Assembly in September 2015 to represent South Belfast, replacing Jimmy Spratt. A former special advisor in the Office of the First Minister, she was appointed Junior Minister in that department and is one of the party spokespersons on victims issues. She studied law at Queen’s University and previously worked as a barrister.

Born in Newtownards, Ben Manton grew up in Bangor and Annalong in Co Down, before studying psychology at Queen's University. He then went into the catering industry, working in a number of local cafes. He currently works at Deanes Deli. Ben Manton joined the Conservative Party in 2012 and is secretary on the party board and chairman of the Young Conservatives in Northern Ireland. He stood for the party in last year's Westminster election.

Rodney McCune, who ran for Westminster last year, was selected to run for the Assembly in place of long-time MLA Michael McGimpsey, who is standing down. He's a qualified barrister who returned from London to pursue a political career here. Mr McCune has worked as a special advisor to former DRD Minister Danny Kennedy.

SDLP deputy leader Fearghal McKinney grew up in Enniskillen before beginning his journalistic career, first with the Impartial Reporter, then Downtown Radio and Ulster Television. The former presenter was also a political correspondent and hosted election debates. Mr McKinney unsuccessfully stood for the SDLP in Fermanagh and South Tyrone in the 2010 general election. He was co-opted to replace Conall McDevitt as MLA for South Belfast in 2013. He is the SDLP's health spokesperson and sat on the health and enterprise committees.

The former chief executive of the Northern Ireland Community Relations Council is well known for his work in peace building and conflict resolution. Mr Morrow is currently director of community engagement and a politics lecturer at Ulster University. He has also served as a sentence review commissioner and a parole commissioner. In 2014, Mr Morrow contested the council elections for the Alliance Party.

The former Lord Mayor Belfast was co-opted into the Assembly in 2014 where he sat on the Enterprise and Finance Committee. A publisher and businessman, he is chairman of the Belfast Media Group and launched a number of initiatives to promote Belfast, including the Aisling Awards, the Belfast International Homecoming and the Belfast Ciclovía. A keen runner and Irish language activist, Mr O Muilleoir is a recipient of the Tolerntia Laureate Award for his support of the LGBT community.

Formerly a member of the DUP, Ruth Patterson has been a Belfast City Councillor since 2001 and has served as High Sheriff and Deputy Lord Mayor. She's currently a member of the City Growth and Regeneration Committee. Ms Patterson trained as a nurse in the Royal Victoria Hospital and later joined the UDR . She has also worked for a cancer charity. She is a member of the South Belfast Partnership Board and several community organisations.

Ian Shanks is a night porter at a hotel and a voluntary community worker. He contested the council election in 2014 as a PUP candidate for the Ormiston ward and is the party's South Belfast spokesperson. He's well known for his work with homeless people and founded HOT (Homeless Outreach Team) in 2013. Along with other volunteers, he works on the streets with vulnerable people in Belfast.

Christopher Stalford has served as councillor representing South Belfast for 11 years including terms as High Sheriff and Deputy Lord Mayor He sits on several committees, including planning, and is also a member of the Linenhall Library board, South Belfast Partnership Board and the Lagan Valley Regional Park Advisory Committee. Mr Stalford, who attended Queen's University, is married with three children and is a Sunday School teacher at his church in Sandy Row.

The vice chairman of UKIP in Northern Ireland is a former Lord Mayor of Belfast and was one of the city's longest serving councillors. A former member of the UUP, he contested the 2007 Assembly election, but was unsuccessful. Last year, he stood for UKIP in the Westminster election. Mr Stoker is a life-long resident of the Village area and is involved in community and neighbourhood renewal work.
