Gospel singer and former MLA Paul Berry is trying to win back his Stormont seat a decade after he quit the DUP. Now an independent unionist councillor in Armagh, he unsuccessfully contested the 2007 election, but did not stand in 2011. Back in 1998, aged 22, he was the youngest MLA in the first Assembly.

Cathal Boylan was elected to the Assembly in 2007. He has been chair of the Environment Committee and sat on the Standards and Privileges Committee. Mr Boylan is the Sinn Fein spokesperson on road safety and planning and was previously a councillor on Armagh City and District Council. A lifelong resident of Keady, with a strong interest in Gaelic games, he's a founder member of Mc Verry/McElvanna Sinn Féin Cumann.

Emmet Crossan supports the legalisation of cannabis, abortion and same sex marriage in Northern Ireland. He has been involved in charity work with Southern Area Hospice, the Simon Community and a cancer fundraising group which he co-founded, The Miracle Sessions. He is a musician and custom-builds motorcycles.

Megan Fearon was co-opted to the Assembly to replace Conor Murphy in July 2012 and was, at the time, the youngest political representative in Ireland. She sat on the Enterprise and OFMDFM committees and was vice chair of the All Party Group on Women, Peace and Security. Ms Fearon is her party's spokesperson on women, children and young people.

William Irwin

An MLA since 2005, William Irwin was chair of the Agriculture Committee and also served as deputy chair of the Culture Committee. He was previously a councillor on Armagh City & District Council where he was appointed mayor. Mr Irwin is a dairy farmer and a member of the Orange Order and Royal Black Institution.

Danny Kennedy was elected to the Assembly in 1998. He served as deputy leader of his party until 2010 and was a Newry and Mourne District Councillor for more than 20 years. He was Employment Minister in 2010 and was appointed Regional Development Minister in 2011 but resigned from the post as part of the UUP’s decision to withdraw from Executive.

Originally from Belfast, Alan Love worked as a food industry chemist before joining the NI Scientific Civil Service where he spent 33 years, leading investigations in water pollution. He lives in Lisburn and is UKIP's Northern Ireland environment spokesperson. He was previously vice chairman of the party here.

Former republican prisoner Martin McAllister is a well-known political and community activist in South Armagh. The Crossmaglen man was previously a spokesman for Fianna Fail in the Armagh area and took part in a meeting with the former Chief Constable Matt Baggott when he visited the town in 2010.Mr McAllister is campaigning for more investment in healthcare and cross border economic development.

Karen McKevitt has switched constituencies for this election. She was an MLA for South Down from 2011, sitting on the Culture and Business Committees and chairing the All Party Group on Muscular Dystrophy. Ms McKevitt was previously a councillor and deputy mayor of Newry and Mourne District Council.

Justin McNulty

Gaelic football manager and former player Justin McNulty lives in Mullaghbawn. He played full back for Armagh when the county won the All Ireland championship in 2002 and went on to manage clubs in Cavan and Dublin before being appointed Laois manager in 2010. He stood for the SDLP in last year's Westminster election.

Conor Murphy

Former Regional Development Minister and Newry and Armagh MP Conor Murphy was first elected to the Assembly in 1998, after eight years as a local councillor. He left the Assembly in 2012 to concentrate on his role as an MP, but returned last year, co-opted to the seat vacated by Mickey Brady who was elected to Westminster. Mr Murphy is currently Sinn Fein spokesperson on all-Ireland economic matters.

A councillor on Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council, Mr Nicholson is the son of Ulster Unionist MEP Jim Nicholson. He is a businessman from a farming background.

Michael Watters

Former stockbroker Michael Watters is a campaign manager and executive assistant with the Green Party. He previously worked in Panama and speaks Spanish. He has a BA in political science and government from the Open University.

Craig Weir

Journalism student Craig Weir is on the executive committee of Alliance Youth and is a member of the Integrated Education Alumni Association. He's a former IFA referee and was involved in community work with homeless and disadvantaged people. He is a soccer coach, marathon runner and practising Christian.
