A former nuclear submarine commander who featured in a BBC documentary, Stephen Aiken retired from the Royal Navy in 2011 after 32 years and became chief executive of the British-Irish Chamber of Commerce. He was awarded the OBE and US Meritorious Service Medal for service in the Middle East. Mr Aiken was brought up in Newtownabbey and is married with four daughters.

TUV vice chairman Richard Cairns lives in Antrim and works as a personal assistant to Jim Allister. He is a governor of Ballycraigy Primary School, a director of Antrim Enterprise Agency, as well as being involved in the Loyal Orders and Greystone Presbyterian Church. He studied at Queen's University.

Pam Cameron

Pam Cameron was elected to the Assembly in 2011 and was deputy chair of the Environment Committee and a member of the Health Committee. She was a DUP councillor on Antrim Borough Council and served as the first female mayor. Previously, Ms Cameron worked in the DUP’s South Antrim Constituency Office and as office manager for Sammy Wilson MP in East Antrim.

Elected to Stormont in 2007, Trevor Clarke was chair of the Regional Development Committee and sat on the Public Accounts and Business Committees. He lives in Randalstown and was previously self-employed. Mr Clarke is member of the Orange Order and is a founding member of the Maine Credit Union.

After 19 years as a councillor in Antrim, Adrian Cochrane-Watson was co-opted into the Assembly last June to replace Danny Kinahan. He served on the Enterprise and Regional Development Committees and has been the party's spokesman for regional development issues. He and his wife are foster carers.

Environmental campaigner and geography graduate Helen Farley works in retail. She has a background in ecology and conservation, and opposes plans to drill for oil at Woodburn Forest near Carrickfergus.

David Ford

David Ford became leader of the Alliance Party in 2001. He was elected to the Assembly in 1998 and became Justice Minister in April 2010, the first local minister in that role since the suspension of the former Northern Ireland parliament in 1972. He was also an Antrim Borough Councillor and stood in Westminster elections. Mr Ford was previously a social worker with the Northern Health and Social Services Board in Antrim, Newtownabbey and Carrickfergus.

Paul Girvan was co-opted into the Assembly in 2010 to replace William McCrea and was appointed Private Secretary to the Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister. He was also chair of the Finance Committee. Mr Girvan is a former mayor of Newtownabbey, representing Ballyclare.

Former Newtownabbey Borough Councillor Robert Hill left the DUP in 2014 after 14 years and unsuccessfully contested the Westminster election for UKIP last year.

Declan Kearney

Sinn Fein national chairperson Declan Kearney is a key member of the party's leadership. He was previously northern chairperson and deputy general secretary. Mr Kearney has spoken often on the theme of reconciliation and has shared a platform with the Chief Constable George Hamilton. A keen sportsman, he played football and hurling, and also taught Irish. He has also been involved in community economic development work.

A businesswoman in Antrim, Roisin Lynch sits on Farranshane Social Trust and is a governor of St Comgall’s Primary School in Antrim. The mother of seven is also a committee member of the mental health charity Rehability and a committee member and former chair of St Comgall’s GAA club.

David McMaster from Ballyclare describes himself as a non-aligned progressive independent. He has pledged that, if elected, he will give 15% of his salary to South Antrim community groups.

Paul Michael

A member of Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council, Paul Michael served a term as mayor. He is branch chair for the UUP in South Antrim. A former Reserve Army soldier, he works for the Royal British Legion where he holds the office of chairman. He's also chairman of the Antrim Armed Forces Day Committee for 2016.

Mark Young grew up in Broughshane and is currently studying Sociology and Politics at Ulster University. Recently, he has been working on both the Democratic and Republican Presidential campaigns in the US. He is a team leader at Green Pasture Church.
